The Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, was designed in 1957 by former Taliesin fellow Elizabeth “Read” Weber, FAIA (1908-1990). Made a Fellow of the AIA in 1981, Weber was nevertheless listed in their records as a man until recent research funded by BWAF discovered her true identity. Weber was a founding partner of the NY-area firm Katz, Waisman, Blumenkranz, Stein & Weber, and completed many hospitals and schools in the area.
