BWAF Advisor Despina Stratigakos, Ph.D. (Associate Professor, SUNY Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning), one of the architects that worked closely on the development of Architect Barbie, was interviewed in the October 14th edition of The Chronicle of Higher Education. Stratigakos first talked about her initial idea for the doll as a way to get faculty and student at the University of Michigan to discuss affirmative action and gender discrimination. Stratigakos also spoke about her work with architect Kelly M. Hayes McAlonie, AIA, (Interim Assistant VP of Capital Planning Group, University at Buffalo and President Elect for the NY state AIA) to get the nation to elect Architect Barbie as their choice for the 2010 “I Can Be…” campaign. At the time, the doll lost to a computer science one. BWAF first talked with Stratigakos about her campaign in September 2010.
