Industry Leaders Roundtable Retreat October 3-4, 2012

The Industry Leaders Roundtable Retreat convened October 3-4, 2012, at the Pocantico Center of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund on the Rockefeller Estate in Tarrytown, NY.

The program theme–Powering Up, Building the Business Case, An Action Plan for the Roundtable–was addressed by internationally known speakers followed by workshops designed to help participating firms see how Business Case views could create cultural change within their own firms. Carol Gilligan

In 1996 Time Magazine named Gilligan one of the 25 most influential Americans. Best known for her 1982 work, In a Different Voice, described by Harvard University Press as “the little book that started a revolution.” Gilligan received her B.A. summa cum laude in English literature from Swarthmore College, a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Radcliffe College, and a Ph.D. in social psychology from Harvard University.

Her recent books include Joining the Resistance, Polity Press (2011); The Deepening Darkness: Patriarchy, Resistance, and Democracy’s Future, Cambridge University Press (2009); and Kyra, Random House, (2008), the first book to make a woman architect the heroine of the story.

A member of the Harvard faculty for over thirty years, she held the university’s first chair in Gender Studies. She is currently a Professor at New York University.

Linda Carli, Ph.D.

Linda L. Carli holds a Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. An authority on social influence, gender discrimination and the challenges faced by professional women, she is the author (with Alice Eagly) of Through the Labyrinth: The Truth About How Women Become Leaders (Harvard Business School Press, 2007. The book received the 2008 Distinguished Publication Award from the Association of Women in Psychology; an article based on the book received a McKinsey Award as the second most significant article published in the Harvard Business Review in 2007.In 2001, she co-edited (with Eagly) a volume of the Journal of Social Issues that focused on women leaders.

She has developed and conducted diversity training workshops and negotiation and conflict resolution workshops for women leaders and has lectured widely on gender and diversity for business, academic, and other organizations.

Cathy Dove

Dove co-leads the new campus for Cornell Tech. When fully developed, the campus will include almost 300 expert faculty, and over 2,000 graduate students. The campus’s innovative academic “hub” concept, will feature curriculum and research organized across multiple disciplines and will be directed toward tech in support of particular sectors of New York City’s economy.

As the Vice President for the new tech campus, Dove is overseeing the formation of the environmentally sustainable campus, whose development costs are expected to exceed $2 billion over 30 years. Dove is responsible for all development, outreach and operational aspects of the campus, including areas such as human resources, external and student relations, development and facilities, IT, marketing and communications, finances and outreach.

Charlotte Relyea

Charlotte Relyea is a Partner in McKinsey & Company’s New York office. Charlotte leads McKinsey’s Women’s Initiative for the Northeast office complex, whose mission is to create an exceptional experience, foster a close community and increase recruiting and retention of women. Charlotte is a leader of McKinsey’s Tech, Media, Telecom practice; and McKinsey’s Marketing & Sales practice. Since joining the firm in 2003, Charlotte has specialized in sales, channel, and strategy issues for a number of media and information services clients.

Prior to joining McKinsey, Charlotte spent two years at an internet strategy consulting firm and a year at an internet service provider. She also spent two years as an investment banking analyst. Charlotte holds a B.A. in English from Princeton University and an M.B.A. with high distinction from Harvard Business School.
